This was our biggest and most challenging project to date. We had to design, from scratch, a sales order system that would allow each the Starbucks Coffee Shops to place food orders with their supplier directly from a browser on the Manager's computer. These orders were then imported into the supplier's ERP system for production and delivery. Added complications were; the screens had to be framed in a 600x600 browser window, orders were to be placed at store in single quantities but the supplier would need the orders in predefined pack multiples, stores would need the ability to place 4 days orders on screen with the previous 2 deliveries also displayed, order placing to be stopped for the current day at a predefined cutoff time, amendments to be possible up to the selected day's cutoff time, historic data for at least 52 weeks to be available, product expiry and effective dates to allow for seasonal launches, the timescale for the development was critical as all stores needed to be live prior to the Christmas launches at the end of November 2006.
The platform for this was specified by ourselves as Apache, MySQL and PHP and although Linux would have been the preferred operating system it was 64-Bit MS Windows 2003 that was selected as the support staff that would look after the server (at the food supplier's location) were only trained with that OS.
We also created an Administration Centre (CLICK HERE for the screenshots) that allowed the food supplier to maintain the products, store logins and order cutoff times.
